Upstate's Schmiege Earns Scholar-Athlete Of The Year Honor

MACON, Ga. - The Atlantic Sun Conference awarded the 2014 A-Sun Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year award to USC Upstate midfielder Marvin Schmiege, announced Monday by the conference office. Schmiege is joined by 10 other men's soccer student-athletes on the Academic All-Conference Team.

Schmiege, a unanimous selection for the Academic All-Conference Team, has been a vital component to USC Upstate's success on the field this season. He leads the league in scoring with nine goals and registered 20 total points. He broke four Division-I era school-records on the pitch this year, including career points and goals scored.

The Berlin, Germany native also excels in the classroom with a 4.0 cumulative GPA in Business Administration. This marks his third selection to the A-Sun Academic All-Conference team. Schmiege recently was honored as a 2014 Capital One Academic All-District selection.

The Academic All-Conference Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom and exemplify the A-Sun's mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's games.
